Blog Journal #4

I think it is important that technology standards stay up to date as digital media is constantly developing. The standard SC.912.HS.2.1 relates to regulation of screen time for the well-being of students. I feel I am prepared to teach according to this standard. By doing a little research, I could find scientific studies that back the regulation of screen-time and talk about effects on the health of students. By limiting the use of screens and electronic devices in my class, I could implement this standard in my classroom.

One resource on the CPALMS website is an original student tutorial titled "Space on the Florida Frontier: Part 2". This is a lesson which can be used to instruct students. It includes practice items for students. This could be used for the majority of a lesson, or for inspiration when creating one's own lesson plan. Teachers can play portions of the video to keep students engaged and to provide an audio-visual representation of the lesson material. This resource would be very useful for online classes, or if a natural disaster or other emergency prevents students from attending in person.

Proficiency in internet searching as a teacher is importat as there is countless information and resources online. By being able to search effectively teachers can make the most out of what is available to them. Also, proficiency will allow teachers to search in less time for what they are looking for. I think I will use the google images search more, especially the reverse search because that is a cool feature that could be useful in day-to-day life. I also think being able to narrow down one's search to specific file types would be helpful as a teacher if only certain types of resources could be accessed by students. Some file types aren't compatible with different webpages so this feature could be very useful.

I think AI does and will continue to play a major role in K-12 education. Generative AI is becoming increasingly popular. Students will likely use it whether it is allowed or not so it is important teachers have a good understanding of it. I think AI could be a very useful tool for students when used properly and ethically. It could be especially helpful for students with special needs or accommodations. I also think generative AI could prove useful for teachers. This resource can help create lesson plans, reduce time or workload for teachers, and help simplify different tasks. Traditional AI is also useful for teachers. Algorithms on Instagram, Tik Tok, and Pinterest help provide teachers with inspiration or ideas for many different aspects of their life. I believe that embracing and fully understanding AI will be of great significance in the future of K-12 education.
