Blog Journal #6
So far my experience with blogging has been good. I haven't looked at other people's blogs very much yet, but I think that would be a good thing for me to do in the future. I can see how blogs could be a useful part of my PLN as a teacher. One thing I would like better is if I could include more design elements into the blog. Blogger is a bit limited on features like that, but I could try creating something on word and then adding it to Blogger.
One Web 2.0 tool I might use is VoiceThread. I could use this to record and share lectures with my students. This is really good if a student misses classes due to sickness or if some crises, like a hurricane or pandemic, prevents students from meeting in-person. This tool could also be used if students have to do presentations or video projects.
My experience with Generative AI has been pretty good so far. I used it to create a lesson plan for a history class for the portfolio item. The AI created a plan fairly quickly that included good content. I can see myself using it again for a similar task. I also used Canva's AI tool to generate an image. I wasn't as successful with this because it didn't give e exactly what I was looking for and I had to put in several prompts to get something I liked. I am also concerned about generating images because Generative AI has been known to steal artists' work.
I could use generative AI as a jumping point for creating lesson plans. I probably wouldn't use it directly because I have specific content I want to include and will probably have certain standards to meet. However, Generative AI creates a good start that I can build off of and alter to save some time and energy. I would probably use Perplexity so that I could see the sources used which would ease some ethical concerns. I could offer AI as a study tool for vocabulary. For instance, Q-chat on Quizlet can teach and quiz students on different vocab sets.I don't have any ethical concerns with this mechanism because it would likely be from a Quizlet I created. Also, the AI is much more limited, so I wouldn't be as concerned about student safety and privacy.
