Blog Journal #8

I learned a lot from this assignment. It helped me develop design skills that could be used again for a similar task or really for any digital design task. I learned how to embed a calendar and how to add a cc license to the page which could both prove helpful in the future as well. All of the design principles were important when creating my website. I used contrast by choosing font colors and backgrounds that could be distinguished. I used repetition by using the same font colors, sizes, and types throughout the whole web page. Alignment was easier to do because it was already built into the weekly website, but I did have to make sure images lined up well with the text. I addressed proximity by putting spacers between different bodies of text. I also used this when adding the names of my pets on the about me page by making sure the name the names were close to the picture they referred to,

There are lots of ways QR codes in the classroom. One way could be to provide students a link to tutoring services offered by the school. This would help them access it easily without drawing too much attention to themselves if that is a concern for the student. This same approach could be used for students to learn about different clubs or extracurriculars by including QR codes on posters. QR codes are an easy way to take attendance or to have students fill out a survey on their way in or out of a classroom.

Case:

"Scenario: As a 10th-grade history teacher, you decide to use generative AI to assist with grading Scenario: As a 10th-grade history teacher, you decide to use generative AI to assist with grading essays and written assignments. The AI provides feedback and suggests grades based on criteria you input. While this saves you time, you notice that the AI sometimes overlooks nuanced arguments or misinterprets students’ points of view, potentially leading to unfair assessments. Dilemma: You receive an essay from a student, Alex, who has a unique interpretation of a historical event that is well-reasoned but not entirely aligned with the conventional viewpoint. The AI's grading suggests a lower score due to its focus on standard interpretations rather than the strength of Alex’s argument.Options: Option A: Accept the AI’s grade without further review, prioritizing efficiency and consistency in grading, but risking unfairly penalizing Alex for his original thoughts.Option B: Override the AI's grade after reviewing Alex’s essay yourself, recognizing the validity of his interpretation and assigning a higher score, but potentially undermining the consistency you aim to maintain with AI assistance"

I would approach this case somewhat like option B. Generative AI is a good place to start when looking to save time. But I would review and edit everything it gives me to ensure the grade I am giving accurately represents a student's success on their essay. I would probably limit my use of AI for grading to spelling and grammar if I were to use it. Also, I would look at altering the criteria I input if I use AI to asses the content of essays I'm grading so that it can give a more accurate score.

  1. Hi Ms. Daffodil! I loved viewing your website! The different images used really added to your site, and it created an element of repetition of the history theme. Every page was uniform and evenly spaced as well. I like how you provided additional resources for the parents in addition to the students, and that you linked the newsletter so it would be accessible for all.
